Employment Position: Technical Writer/Editor/Research Analyst
Location:
Germantown, MD
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with engineers, scientists and others to create, revise and edit technical documents and deliverables.
- Research and write 2-3 page non-technical articles about health and safety topics for a government publication.
- Develop and write presentations, reports, briefing papers and other products to support various programs and clients.
- Write technical information in easily understandable language.
- Work independently on assigned topic(s) with support from a Project Lead and Technical Editor.
- Contact subject matter experts when necessary for additional details.
- Manage multiple document projects at the same time, under challenging environment and response schedules.
- Maintain initiative, flexibility, and cooperation in a team environment.
Required Education / Skills:
- Bachelors Degree preferred, with 2-5 years of experience in the fields of Engineering/Science with an emphasis on Health, Safety and Security; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent Research skills
- Demonstrated writing, and editing skills in the creation of documents, plans, procedures & and proposals.
- Ability to work with subject matter experts to obtain sometimes technical information and modify/translate it for non-technical audience for clear, precise communication products.
- Extensive experience with the Microsoft Office Suite including advanced word processing using Microsoft Word, as well as, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Comfortable extrapolating information from multiple databases and generating reports on the results.
- Willingness to work directly with clients in an environment that changes rapidly, and requires occasional long hours.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.
- Ability to meet the requirements for a DOE security clearance and Building Access badge.
- Able to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers.
- Ability to provide three samples of expository writing for a technical or professional audience (preferably for which the applicant was paid).
Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of the history and field (non-HQ) work of the Department of Energy a plus.
- Knowledge of Human Performance Improvement a plus.
- Working knowledge of Wikis and the collaborative process a plus, but not required.
