Project Enhancement Corporation (PEC) anticipates an increased amount of work in providing engineering and technical support to the Department of Energy (DOE). Currently, we are looking for qualified individuals to join our team to provide high-quality consulting/technical support to the US government in the area identified below. This work will be done in the Germantown, MD area, with potential for travel to various DOE sites as needed. Interested candidates should submit resumes and salary requirements.


Nuclear Decommissioning Engineer (Full-time)

Location:      Germantown, MD

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to projects as assigned by the PEC manager or designee thereof in the areas of analysis; planning; development; revision and review of policy, directives, and standards; assessments; and other related technical areas
  • The specific area for many assignments will be related to decommissioning of nuclear facilities and sites
  • Organize and display complex data in functional ways
  • Prepare client presentations
  • Work closely with clients to address their needs, provide solutions, and report results
  • Maintain initiative, flexibility, and cooperation in a team environment
  • Travel to client sites to conduct a variety of facility reviews
  • Willingness to take on tasks beyond experience related to the following required qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree required; mechanical, chemical, or nuclear engineering is a plus
  • Experience at facilities with nuclear and radioactive systems and equipment
  • Familiarity with nuclear facility technical procedures for system operations
  • Understanding of nuclear radiation effects, radioactive system operations, and nuclear materials handling
  • Understanding of radioactive materials waste disposal
  • Project engineering and project management support including development of project task scope, schedule, and cost estimates; project management experience is a plus
  • Understanding of radiation safety; radiation worker training is a plus
  • Understanding of nuclear equipment operation, such as reactors, accelerators, or hot cell facilities is a plus
  • Must be customer service oriented, experienced in interacting directly with clients and possess the ability to foresee clients needs and provide solutions and recommendations
  • Experienced in researching issues and collecting data from various databases for the development of summary reports
  • Experience with organizing and displaying data in functional ways
  • Must possess analytical capabilities
  • Must possess written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand and follow complex directions/instructions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Willingness to work in an environment that changes rapidly and requires occasional long hours
  • Willingness to travel to Department of Energy sites across the United States
  • Must be detail oriented self-starter and have the ability to work independently
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers
  • Ability to meet the requirements for a DOE security clearance and Building Access badge
  • Site access will require the qualified candidate be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. The candidate’s written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of obtaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
  • A pre-employment test for the absence of any illegal substances will be required. Ongoing reviews and tests for the absence of illegal substances may also be conducted for continued access to client sites. The candidate’s written consent to conduct such tests will be required as a condition of employment.

  • Self-directed and able to define and achieve goals with little supervision
