NPH Engineer (Full-time)

Location:      Germantown, Maryland

Responsibilities:

  • Successful candidate will report to the Technical Services Vice President
  • Provide support to projects as assigned by the PEC manager or designee thereof in the areas of analysis; planning; development; revision and review of policy, directives, and standards; assessments; and other related technical areas
  • Develop standards and procedures for performing Natural Phenomena Hazards characterization
  • Responsible for the design and analysis of hazard controls for DOE nuclear facilities, commercial nuclear facilities and/or other hazardous industrial applications
  • Perform air dispersion analysis for nuclear and chemical hazards
  • Perform hazards analyses and accident analyses
  • Provide follow through on investigated research findings in order to provide clients and/or supervisors with complete information
  • Organize and display complex data in functional ways
  • Prepare client presentations
  • Work closely with clients, foresee their needs and provide solutions
  • Maintain communication with varied contacts within the client’s many work sites
  • Maintain initiative, flexibility, and cooperation in a team environment

Required Qualifications:

  • Engineering or Science degree required; advanced degree is a plus
  • At least 5 years of experience in characterizing Natural Phenomena Hazards (from earthquakes, meteorological events, etc.)
  • Experience in performing air dispersion analysis for nuclear and chemical hazards, supporting hazards analyses and accident analyses
  • Experience with developing standards and procedures for performing NPH characterization, and design and analysis of hazard controls.
  • Must be customer service oriented, experienced in interacting directly with clients and possess the ability to foresee clients needs and provide solutions and recommendations
  • Experienced in researching issues and collecting data from various data bases for the development of summary reports
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and display complex data in a more functional ways
  • Must possess exceptional analytical capabilities
  • Must possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand and follow complex directions/instructions
  • Willingness to work in an environment that changes rapidly and requires occasional long hours
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter and have the ability to work independently
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers
  • Ability to meet the requirements for a DOE security clearance and Building Access badge
  • Site access will require the qualified candidate be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. The candidate’s written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of obtaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
  • A pre-employment test for the absence of any illegal substances will be required. Ongoing reviews and tests for the absence of illegal substances may also be conducted for continued access to client sites. The candidate’s written consent to conduct such tests will be required as a condition of employment.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of DOE sites and types of operation.
  • Self-directed, and able to define and achieve goals with little supervision.
